Rock Springs Event

2009 Sweetwater County Event

Sweetwater County held its Step Up for Kids Day Event Tuesday October 6, 2009 by holding a Step Up for Kids Day Fair at the new Young at Heart Senior Center! Over 200 families in attended (almost 400 kids) and visited the 25 different community organizations, associations, government and non-profits booths that shared information. In addition, the fire departments, police department, all of the sports associations, and various community services were there! The Mayor of Rock Springs spoke and signed a proclamation; the Mayor of Green River was unable to attend but sent a proclamation as well! The Mayor of Rock Springs, Tim Kaumo, and Rock Springs Fire Chief Ron Gatti also read a book to all of the kids in attendance. We had the color guard presented by a local Boy Scout troop and a local Girl Scout troop also collected can goods and baby items to donate to the Food Bank and the Wyoming Health Initiative. The Western Wyoming Community College Women's Soccer Team donated their time by taking the kids around to the booths and participating in activities with them. The attendees enjoyed a dance performance from a new dance company called Just Dance. Both the Rock Springs and Green River papers were in attendance. The Wyoming Kids First Initiative of Sweetwater County unveiled their logo and shared with the community the work that is being done to help the kids and youth in the community. A huge hit for kids was the, kids only, raffle where we raffled off books, movies, and gift certificates. It was a huge success and we are already planning for next year!
